When we started a solar retailing business a few years ago, it did not take long to see there were quite a few nightmares waiting for us!
We had an easily excitable sales team who promised the moon to customers they signed up, often under or over charging them, quoting wrong products or pricing plans and causing endless issues, and draining our precious capital.
In the back office, we had our administration staff losing track of expensive leads, they were always buried in order processing paperwork and unaware of the inventory or STC status. All this was topped by “frustrated” installers receiving wrong paperwork or panels, or showing up at site only to discover there was not enough space on roof for all the panels quoted or they needed a cherry-picker to lift the panels up to the roof.
We had a few early morning calls from irate customers and installers too!
Ah, we never had a dull moment and more dramas continued to unfold every day.
Like any business we wanted happy customers, smooth operation without a huge back office, we wanted to grow sales and profits, and achieve compliance all the time. But it was not possible unless we had a good web based system that cut across our network of outsourced operations in several locations.
There was no suitable software in the market as an off the shelf system that we could modify and use. So we started building one from scratch, this became the foundation of the current mature Solar eCRM system.
